Encyclopedia of Exploration 3, 1850-1940: Oceans, Islands and Polar Regions

This volume complements the fourth and final volume in the series, but stands alone in its own right. It is restrictied to the exploration and travel beyond the temperate continental mainlands - to the oceans, islands and polar regions. The period covered saw the first use of photography, cinematography and sound recording in remote regions, as well as growth in the number of independant women travellers.
