Mirror of the Australian Navigation: An Account of the Voyage of Jacob le Maire and Willem Schouten

Le Maire’s voyage in search of Terra Australis resulted in extensive discoveries in the Pacific and was the essential precursor to Tasman. First published in 1622, this text provided the world with details of their two-year expedition which pioneered a new sailing route from the ‘old world’ to the around Cape Horn. This edition features both a facsimile of the very rare original Dutch edition and a translation of the text by the great eighteenth-century Pacific historian, Alexander Dalrymple.
