Leading Australian literary figure, Dorothy Hewett is remembered and rediscovered in this very personal book of selected poetry. Compiled by Dorothy’s daughter, the poet and literary scholar Kate Lilley, Selected Poems encapsulates Hewett’s enduring themes of grief, loss, despair and memory. This is the first volume to be published following Hewett’s death in 2002 and features an intimate introduction by Kate. Hewett produced 12 collections of poetry, three novels, an autobiography, 13 plays and many articles and short stories. Her impact on Australian writing was recognised when she was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to literature in 1986. Most recently the success around Wesley Enoch’s new production of Man from Mukinupin at Belvoir Street Theatre in Sydney has renewed interest in Hewett’s life and work.
